Проповедь в 4-ю субботу Великого Поста
Во имя Отца и Сына и Св. Духа.
Братья и сестры,
Сегодня в Апостольском чтении имеется следующее наставление св. Апостола Павла:
«Не неправеден Бог, чтобы забыть дело ваше и любовь, которую вы оказали во имя Его, послужив и служа святым. Но мы желаем, чтобы каждый из вас проявлял до конца ту же ревность для достижения полноты надежды, чтобы вы не обленились, но стали подражателями тех, которые верою и долготерпением наследуют обещания». (Евреям 6, 10-12)
Апостол вначале похвалил слушателей за их дела любви. Из другого места этого послания видно, что они сострадали гонимым за имя Христово и оказывали им помощь. Апостол убеждает их не ослабевать в своей ревности и приводит им в пример святых, которые «верою и долготерпением наследовали обещания».
Здесь Апостол подразумевает праотца Авраама. Он получил обещание от Бога о том, что от него произойдёт великий народ и Бог даст ему в наследие Обетованную землю. И он много лет ожидал исполнения этого обетования, пока у него, уже столетнего, не родился сын.
Нет ничего труднее, чем терпение и постоянство. Многие способны исполнить даже и нелегкое дело, но лишь однажды, или изредка. Гораздо труднее терпеливо, изо дня в день, незаметно, самоотверженно совершать своё служение. Немного найдётся способных на это. Именно в постоянстве, в терпении проявляется благородство души.
В природе процессы развития и роста происходят медленно, постепенно, незаметно. Также и процесс внутреннего духовного роста происходит незаметно, будучи движим таинственной силой Святого Духа. С нашей же стороны требуется постоянство и терпение.
Сила терпения происходит от веры. Испытание терпения – это испытание веры.
Испытание терпения подобно плавильной печи, в которой очищается душа от самомнения и самонадеянности.
Мы ищем и просим Бога о исполнении наших земных планов, а Господь заботится о том, чтобы наши души духовно росли. Однако духовный рост возможен только через терпение скорбей. «Многими скорбями надлежит нам войти в Царствие Божие», говорит Писание (Деян 14:22).
Помощь Божия приходит только тогда, когда человек оставит самонадеяность, когда он начинает понимать, что своих собственных сил, знаний, умения не достаточно. Пока человек не возложит на Бога всю свою надежду, помощь Божия не приходит.
Потому самая лучшая молитва та, которую мы часто слышим в конце ектении: «Сами себе и друг друга и весь живот наш Христу Богу предадим». Господь знает, что ожидает нас в будущем, и устраивает все к полезному.
Далее в послании Апостол говорит:
«Терпение нужно вам, чтобы, исполнив волю Божию, получить обещанное; ибо еще немного, очень немного, и Грядущий придет и не умедлит. Праведный верою жив будет; а если кто поколеблется, не благоволит к тому душа Моя». (Евреям 10, 35-38)

Sermon on the 4th Saturday of Great Lent
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Brothers and sisters,
Today’s Epistle contains the following Apostle Paul’s teaching:
“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Heb. 6:10-12).
Initially, the Apostle praised the listeners for their works of love. From another part of this Epistle, it can be seen that they had compassion for those being persecuted for Christ’s name, and extended them help. The Apostle urges them not to weaken in their zealousness and as an example, cites Saints who “through faith and patience inherited the promises”.
Here, the Apostle is implying our forefather Abraham. He received a promise from God that a great people will come from him, and God will give them an inheritance of a Promised Land. He waited for a long time for the promise to be fulfilled until, as a hundred-year old, a son was born.
There is nothing more difficult than patience and constancy. Many are capable of executing even hard tasks or service – but only once or rarely. It’s far more difficult – from day to day, to unnoticeably and selflessly perform your service. Few can be found that are capable of this. It is indeed through patience that the nobility of the soul is displayed.
In Nature, the process of development and growth occurs slowly, gradually, unnoticed. Likewise, the process of development of the inner spiritual growth occurs unnoticeably, being moved by the mysterious force of the Holy Spirit. What is required of us is constancy and patience.
The strength of patience is born from faith. The testing of patience is the testing of faith.
The testing of patience is akin to a smelter in which the soul is being cleansed from conceit and self-reliance.
We seek and ask God to fulfil our earthly plans: but the Lord is concerned for our souls so that they grow spiritually. However, spiritual growth is possible only through the endurance of tribulations. “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God”, says the Scripture (Acts 14:22).
God’s help comes only when the person leaves his self-reliance: when he begins to understand that his own personal strength, knowledge and proficiency are not sufficient. Until such time as a person doesn’t place all his hopes on God, God’s help will not come.
That’s why the best prayer is the one we often hear at the end of the litany: “Let us commit ourselves and one another, and all our life unto Christ our God”. The Lord knows what awaits us in the future, and arranges everything for our benefit.
Further, the Apostle writes in his Epistle:
“For you have need for endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: for yet a little while, and He Who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him”. (Heb. 10:35-38).
