Во имя Отца и Сына и Св. Духа
Древний церковный писатель Тертуллиан выразил такую мысль: «Кровь мучеников – это семя христианства». Церковь, со времен Апостолов гонимая и истребляемая, постепенно распространилась по всем областям Римской Империи и вне ее. Гонения на Церковь не ослабляли ее, а напротив очищали и укрепляли.
Сто лет назад на Русскую землю вернулся век мученичества. Теперь это было уже не время сеяния, а время великой жатвы. В истории вселенской Церкви никогда не было такого явления, как Новомученики и Исповедники Российские. Их число невозможно определить, их миллионы.
Новомученики в огромном большинстве были обыкновенными людьми, такими же, как и каждый из нас. Но их отличала одна общая черта: они относились к своей вере серьезно. У нас же подчас не так: в нашей душе есть место для веры во Христа, но это не первое место. Мы живем другими интересами, которые целиком занимают нас.
Чтобы быть подражателями Новомученикам, нужно относиться к своей вере серьезно. Вера во Христа должна стать содержанием нашей жизни, а не каким-то «воскресным приложением» к ней. Недостаточно только ходить в Церковь, нужно жить в Церкви.
Господь Иисус Христос говорит: «Идеже сокровище ваше, там будет и сердце ваше» (Матф. 6:21). Наше сокровище – Христос, Сын Божий, ставший Человеком ради нас. Апостол Павел говорит: «я живу верою в Сына Божия, возлюбившего меня и предавшего Себя за меня». (Галат. 2,20)
«Верный в малом, верен и во многом» (Лк. 16, 10). Новомученики, будучи верными Христу и Его заповедям в повседневной жизни, остались Ему верными и тогда, когда за эту верность нужно было заплатить самую высокую цену: перетерпеть мучения и смерть.
Первым священником, убитым за Христа, был о. Иоанн Кочуров. Он был расстрелян 13 Ноября 1917 г., лишь несколько дней спустя после большевистского переворота. В те дни в Москве проходил Поместный Собор Русской Церкви, избравший Патриарха Тихона. Почти каждое заседание Собора начиналось с того, что председатель сообщал о мученической смерти того или другого священника или епископа, которые еще недавно присутствовали на заседаниях Собора. Члены Собора вставали, пели «Вечную Память» мученикам и затем продолжали обсуждать церковные дела. А на следующем заседании снова становилось известно о новых убиенных за Христа.
Новомученики и Исповедники – это великое богатство Русской Церкви. Никакая другая Церковь не имеет такого духовного богатства. Потому большую ошибку совершили те, кто в последнее время поодиночке или даже целыми приходами ушли в другие поместные Церкви. Не боятся ли они из-за своего неоправданного бегства из Русской Церкви потерять духовную связь с Новомучениками?
Эту связь потеряли наши бывшие собратья из Зарубежной Церкви ушедшие в МП. Хотя они и продолжают праздновать память Новомучеников, но не истинно. Потому что, прославляя на словах Новомучеников, они в то же время находятся в дружбе с наследниками их палачей. Нынешние российские власти, гражданские и церковные, – это прямые наследники тех, кто убивал Новомучеников и клеветал на их подвиг.
Русская Церковь в 20-м столетии приобрела драгоценный духовный опыт. Это опыт Сергианства, и его осмысления. Этот опыт, которого не имеется в других поместных православных Церквах, особенно важен в наше предантихристово время.
Сергианство – это подделка под Церковь, причем подделка гораздо более тонкая, чем догматические ереси. Сергианство формально сохраняет догматы и каноны, обряды и богослужения, но на деле отрекается от внутреннего содержания христианства, от исповедания истины. Епископы-Новомученики глубоко раскрыли ложь Сергианства и показали его антихристианскую сущность.
Чем ближе мы ко временам антихриста, тем подделки под Церковь будут более тонкими и трудно различимыми. Только сердце, ищущее Христа, сможет распознать эти подделки. Те, для кого христианство – это нечто внешнее, не смогут узнать антихриста и поверят ему. Как сказал о. Серафим Роуз: «все внешнее может быть обращено в подделку».
Молитвами святых Новомучеников да поможет нам Господь в наше темное время следовать по истинному пути.

New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
The early church writer Tertullian expressed a thought such as this: “The blood of martyrs is the seed of Christianity”. Since the time of the Apostles the Church was persecuted and exterminated; nevertheless it gradually spread throughout all regions of the Roman Empire and even beyond. Persecution did not weaken the Church, but on the contrary it cleansed and strengthened Her.
A hundred years ago the age of martyrs returned to the Russian land. Now it was not a time of sowing, but the time of a great harvest. In the history of the Church, there has never been such a phenomenon as the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia. Their number cannot be determined, there are millions of them.
The New Martyrs in their vast majority were ordinary people, just the same as each of us. But they were distinguished by one common feature: they took their faith seriously. As for us: there is a place for faith in Christ in our soul, but it typically doesn’t occupy the first place. We cherish other interests, which absorb all our attention.
In order to be imitators of the New Martyrs we have to take our faith seriously. Faith in Christ must become the content of our lives, and not some sort of a “Sunday supplement” to it. It’s not enough just to go to church, we should live in the Church.
The Lord Jesus Christ says: “Where is your treasure, there will your heart be also” (Math. 6,21). Our treasure is Christ, the Son of God, Who became Man for our sake. The Apostle Paul says: “I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” (Gal. 2.20)
“He who is faithful in little things is faithful also in great things” (Luke 16,10). The New Martyrs, who were faithful to Christ and His commandments in daily life, remained faithful to Him even then, when it became necessary to pay for their faithfulness the highest price: to endure torment and death.
The first priest killed for Christ was Fr. John Kochurov. He was shot on November 13, 1917, only a few days after the Bolshevik revolution. In those days in Moscow the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church was held. This Council elected the Patriarch Tikhon. At almost every meeting of the Council the chairman began with a report about the martyrdom of one or another member of the Council, who had only recently attended its sessions. The members of the Council rose up, sang “Eternal Memory” to the martyrs and then continued to discuss church affairs. And at the next meeting again they became aware of yet more victims of the persecution.
New Martyrs and Confessors are a great treasure of the Russian Church. No other Church has such a spiritual treasure. That’s why those individuals and parishes, who have recently left the Russian Church for other local Churches, made a mistake. Don’t they fear that through their unjustified flight they may lose the spiritual connection with the New Martyrs?
This connection was lost by our former brethren from the Russian Church Abroad who left for the Moscow Patriarchate. Even though they continue to honour the memory of the New Martyrs, but this is not a true honour. Because while glorifying the New Martyrs, they at the same time maintain friendship with the successors of their executioners. The present-day Russian civil and church authorities are the direct successors of those who killed the New Martyrs and negated their suffering.
The Russian Church in the 20th century acquired a precious spiritual experience. This is the experience of Sergianism, and a deep comprehension of it. This experience, which other local Orthodox Churches don’t have, is especially important in our pre-antichrist time.
Sergianism has basically created a counterfeit Church. This counterfeit is much more subtle than more clearly recognizable dogmatic heresies. Sergianism formally keeps all dogmas and canons, rituals and services, but in reality it renounces the inner content of Christianity, it renounces the confession of truth. The Hierarchs-New Martyrs profoundly exposed the falsehood of Sergianism and showed its anti-Christian spirit.
The closer we are to the times of Antichrist, the more subtle are the attempts of the devil to create a counterfeit church. Only a heart that genuinely seeks Christ will be able to recognize these counterfeits. Those for whom Christianity is something outward, will not recognize the Antichrist, but will believe in him. As Fr. Seraphim Rose said: “Everything external can be turned into a counterfeit.”
Through the prayers of the New Martyrs may the Lord help us to find a true path in our dark times.
