Братья и сестры,
Служение св. Литургии называется также «Евхаристией», что значит «благодарение». Совершая литургию, мы приносим службу благодарения Богу за все Его бесчисленные благодеяния.
В тайных молитвах Литургии священник благодарит Бога прежде всего за то, что он даровал нам жизнь. Он привёл нас от небытия в бытие; и этот дар бытия неотъемлем, неуничтожим; мы всегда, во веки будем существовать. Он украсил нас Своим образом и подобием, а когда мы отпали от Него, и добровольно подчинились начальнику зла, диаволу, Бог не оставил нас в таком положении и сделал все, чтобы избавить нас от гибели и от рабства диаволу, и ввести в вечную блаженную жизнь.
Причем Он спас нас не просто Своим всесильным повелением, а Сам стал ради нас Человеком, родился на земле от Пресвятой Девы, жил среди людей. Наконец, принял добровольные страдания, крест, погребение и воскрес из мертвых, чтобы и нас освободить от вечной смерти.
Мы благодарим Бога не только за те благодарения, о которых мы знаем, но и за те, о которых не знаем. Потому что Бог непрестанно тайно благодетельствует нам, без нашего ведома.
Священник, совершая литургию, приносит Богу Евхаристию, благодарение, эту бескровную жертву также и за всех святых, от века угодивших Богу, достигших совершенства, и ныне молящихся за весь мир. После пресуществления Св. Даров священник поминает праотцев, пророков, апостолов, мучеников, и прочие различные чины святых, и затем возглашает: “Изрядно о Пресвятей, Пречистей, Преблагословенней, Славной Владычице нашей Богородице и Приснодеве Марии”.
Т. е. в первую очередь мы приносим Тебе эту благодарственную жертву за Твою Пречистую Матерь. Мы благодарим Тебя, Господи, что Ты из среды нас, от нашего естества, воспринял Пресвятую Деву и сделал Ее Своей Матерью.
Среди всех благодеяний, которые мы получили от Бога, великое Его благодеяние в том, что Он даровал нам в заступление Свою Матерь, Пресвятую Богородицу.
Когда Пресвятая Дева принесла Богомладенца Иисуса в храм в 40-й день после Рождества, св. праведный Симеон пророчески сказал Ей: «Тебе же Самой душу пройдет оружие» (Лук. 2: 35).
Это пророчество исполнилось, когда Пресвятая Богородица стояла у креста Своего Сына и сострадала Ему. Невозможно даже представить себе ту скорбь, какую испытывало Ее сердце в эти часы. Причем, Она, видя своего Сына на кресте, тогда еще не знала, что Он явится победителем смерти и воскреснет в третий день. Оружие прошло Ее сердце, и оно стало источником милосердия для всех прибегающих к Ней.
Никто так не милостив, как Господь, и мы просим у Него милости и прощения. Но Бог не только милостив, но и правосуден, а наши грехи часто заслуживают справедливого наказания.
А Матерь Божию мы называем ” источником милосердия” и просим Её открыть для нас двери милосердия Божия. «Милосердия двери отверзи нам, благословенная Богородице…”. И по ее молитвам отверзаются для нас двери милосердия Божия. Ради Ее предстательства правосудие Божие отступает и дает место милости.
Пресвятая Богородица, как Царица неба и земли, обладает после Бога всей полнотой власти на небе и на земле. Поэтому мы в молитве к Ней не говорим: «Пресвятая Богородица, моли Бога о нас», а «Пресвятая Богородица, спаси нас», потому что Она, как Царица, проявляет Себя, как Сама того желает.
Будем всегда, во всех обстоятельствах, во всех наших нуждах прибегать к покрову Божией Матери с твердой верой, что Ее предстательство за нас перед престолом Божиим никогда не может остаться безуспешным.

Brothers and sisters,
The Holy Liturgy is also called the “Eucharist,” which means “thanksgiving” in Greek. In celebrating the Liturgy, we offer a service of thanksgiving to God for all His innumerable gifts and blessings.
In the secret prayers of Liturgy the priest thanks God, first of all, for giving us life. He brought us from non-existence into being, and this gift of life is inalienable, indestructible. We will always exist, forever. He adorned us with His image and likeness, and when we fell away from Him and voluntarily submitted to the author of evil, the devil, God did not abandon us in our misfortune and did everything to deliver us from slavery to the devil, and to lead us into eternal life.
Moreover, He saved us not just by His almighty command, but He Himself became Man for our sake, was born on earth from the Most Holy Virgin and lived among people. Finally, He accepted voluntary suffering, death on the cross, burial, and on the 3rd day He rose from the dead in order to free us from eternal death.
We thank God not only for those blessings that we know about, but also for those that we don’t. Because God is constantly secretly doing good to us, mostly without our knowledge.
Celebrating Liturgy, the priest offers to God the bloodless sacrifice of thanksgiving also for all the saints who have pleased God from all eternity, who have attained perfection, and who now pray for the whole world before God’s throne. After the consecration of the Holy Gifts, the priest commemorates the forefathers, prophets, apostles, martyrs, and other various ranks of saints, and then he exclaims: “Especially for our Most Holy, Most Pure, Most Blessed, Glorious Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary.”
That is, we especially offer to You this thanksgiving sacrifice for Your Most-Pure Mother. We give thanks to You, O Lord, that You received from among us, from our nature, the Most Holy Virgin and made her Your Mother.
Among all the blessings that we have received from God, His great blessing is that He has given us His Mother, the Most Holy Theotokos, as an intercessor for us.
When on the 40th day after the Nativity of Jesus Christ the Most Holy Virgin brought the Divine Infant to the temple, St Simeon prophetically said to her: “A sword will pierce your own soul” (Luke 2:35).
This prophecy was fulfilled when the Most Holy Theotokos stood at the Cross of her Son and co-suffered with Him. It is impossible to even imagine the sorrow that her heart experienced during these hours. Moreover, when she saw her Son on the cross, she did not yet know that He would appear as the conqueror of death and would rise again on the third day. The weapon pierced through her heart, and it became a source of compassion for all who resort to her.
There is no one more merciful than the Lord, and we ask Him for mercy and forgiveness. But God is not only merciful, but also a just Judge, and our sins often deserve a just punishment.
We call the Mother of God “the source of compassion” and ask Her to open the doors of God’s mercy for us. “Open to us the doors of compassion, O blessed Theotokos…” And through her prayers, the doors of God’s mercy open for us. For the sake of Her intercession, God’s justice retreats and gives way to His mercy.
The Most Holy Theotokos, as the Queen of heaven and earth, possesses after God all power in heaven and on earth. Therefore, in prayer to Her, we do not say: “Most Holy Theotokos, pray to God for us,” but “Most Holy Theotokos, save us,” because she, as the Queen, reveals herself as she herself wishes.
Let us always, in all circumstances, in all our needs, resort to the protection of the Mother of God with the firm faith that her intercession for us before the throne of God can never fail.
