Проповедь на диаконскую хиротонию
Во имя Отца и Сына и Св. Духа.
Братья и сестры,
Поздравляю вас с праздником Владимирской иконы Божией Матери, вашим престольным праздником. Сегодня у вас вдвойне праздник и радость по причине совершившейся хиротонии о. …….. во диакона.
Мы слышали чудные тайносовершительные слова: «Божественная благодать всегда немощная врачующи и оскудевающая восполняющи, проручествует ……….., благоговейнейшего иподиакона во диакона».
«Божественная Благодать», т.е. Сам Бог – Дух Святой «проручествует», т.е. возводит на высшую степень служения.
Хочу здесь обратиться к новопосвященному диакону:
Какая это тебе честь, что Сам Бог поручает тебе это служение, Сам Своей рукой возводит тебя на высшую ступень и исполняет тебя Своей благодатью!
«Божественная благодать всегда немощная врачующи и оскудевающая восполняющи…» Ты немощен? Божественная благодать уврачует твои немощи. Тебе многого недостает, чтобы достойно проходить это служение? Божественная благодать восполнит этот недостаток.
Здесь Дух Святой действует: избирает, возводит, врачует, исполняет благодатью. Тогда зачем ты противоречишь? Ты говоришь: я не смогу, я неспособен, я не гожусь для этого служения. Там где действует Бог, уже неуместно противоречить и задавать вопросы.
Предай себя Богу, как сырой материал, как глину для горшечника, и Он сотворит из тебя то, что Ему угодно.
Бог сотворил из ничего этот великий и удивительный мир. Признай себя за ничто. Скажи вместе со св. Иоанном Кронштадским «я ничто, а Господь все для меня» и Бог будет для тебя всем: силой твоего духа, светом для твоего ума, Он даст тебе мужество и терпение.
Все подает Дух Святой, от нас же требуется только следующее: глубокое сознание своего ничтожества, вседушное предание себя воле Божией и готовность все перетерпеть с помощью Божией.
Как глиняный сосуд, чтобы стать прочным, должен быть обожжен в огне, так и всякое дело, совершаемое ради Бога, неизбежно проходит через огонь искушения. Только так оно может получить необходимую твердость.
Как говорит св. Димитрий Ростовский: «В сем мире мы поставлены как бы целью для стреляния (Плач Иеремии 3,12). Стрелы летят на нас со всех сторон: одни от оружия врагов видимых…, другие из лука врагов невидимых».
Как цель для стреляния не двигается, не убегает, но стоит неподвижно, так и мы должны терпением преодолевать все трудности.
Вооружись непобедимым христианским оружием: терпением, постоянством, кротостью и самоукорением. Никакое искушение не сможет победить того, кто так вооружился.
Есть замечательное наставление Оптинского старца Иосифа, ученика преп. Амвросия, которое в одном предложении изображает весь подвиг христианской жизни. Эта фраза, несмотря на свою видимую простоту, заключает в себе глубочайшую мудрость и святоотеческий духовный опыт.
«За что взялся, того и держись, и терпи все находящее. Только с места не сходи и всегда себя укоряй и спасешься». (Преп. Иосиф Оптинский)
«Только с места не сходи» – заметь для себя это наставление старца Иосифа. Если человек по малодушию оставит место своего служения, не выдержав искушения, то он лишится уготовленного ему венца.
И вы, братья и сестры, не забывайте молиться о вашем новорукоположенном диаконе, чтобы Господь укрепил бы его в этом служении, и в подобающее время возвел бы его на высшую степень священства.

Sermon on deacon ordination
In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Brothers and sisters,
I congratulate you on the feast of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God – your church’s Feast-day. Today, you have a double celebration and joy due to Father …… ordination as a deacon.
We heard the marvellous, mysterious words of the consecration: “The Divine grace which always heals that which is infirm and completes that which is wanting, elevates …….., the most devout subdeacon, to be a deacon”.
I would like to address here the newly-ordained deacon:
God’s Grace i.e. God Himself – the Holy Spirit elevated you to the higher level of service. What a great honour to you that God Himself consigned this ministry to you, His Hand raising you to a higher level and filling you with His grace!
“The Divine grace which always heals that which is infirm and completes that which is wanting…”
You are infirm? God’s grace will cure your infirmities. You have many shortcomings, which hinder you from worthily performing this ministry? God’s grace will make up for your weaknesses.
Here, the Holy Spirit is acting: He elects, elevates, cures and fills with grace. Then why are you disagreeing? You say: I am unable, I am incapable, I am not worthy of this ministry. It’s improper to disagree and pose questions where God is acting.
Commit yourself to God, just like raw material – like clay to a potter, and He will make you into what He pleases.
God created this great and amazing world out of nothing. Recognise yourself as a nothing. Declare with Saint John of Kronstadt: “I am nothing, but the Lord is everything to me”, and God will become everything to you: strength of your spirit and light for your mind. He will give you fortitude and patience.
While everything comes from the Holy Spirit, all that is demanded of us is the following: profound awareness of our insignificance, commiting ourselves with all heart to God’s will and readiness to endure everything with God’s help.
Just like a clay dish has to be exposed to a fire in a furnace in order to become firm, so does everything that is done for God’s sake, has to unavoidably pass through the fire of temptation. It’s only through this that it can obtain the necessary strength.
Saint Dimitri of Rostov says: “We were placed in this world, as though we were targets for arrows (Lamentations 3,12). Arrows fly at us from all sides: some from the weaponry of visible enemies…, others from the bow of the invisible foes”.
Just as a fixed target to be fired at doesn’t move, doesn’t run away, but remains immobile: so must we overcome all difficulties with patience.
Arm yourself with the invincible Christian armament: patience, persistence, meekness and self-accusation. There is no temptation that can prevail against such an armed person.
There is a wonderful instruction by Optina Elder Joseph – disciple of St. Ambrose. This instruction in one sentence describes the whole ascetic deed of a Christian life. Despite its seeming simplicity, this phrase encompasses profound wisdom and the spiritual experiences of the Holy Fathers.
“Whatever you have undertaken, stay with it, and endure everything that comes your way. Only don’t move away from your position and always blame yourself, and you will be saved”. (St. Joseph of Optina).
“Only don’t move away from your position” – note this precept from Elder Joseph. If a person leaves the place of his ministry because he lacks patience and couldn’t hold out against temptation, he loses the crown prepared for him.
And you, brothers and sisters – don’t forget to pray for your newly ordained deacon, so that the Lord strengthens him in his calling, and in due course, elevate him to the higher level of priesthood.
